Iowa Edges Ohio State
/Urban Meyer served as honorary coach for the dual, but the Hawkeyes prevailed in Columbus.
#1 Iowa defeated #3 Ohio State in Columbus by a score of 18-14. It was a great dual with some surprises, but in the end it was just too many swing matches that would have had to go in the favor of the Buckeyes.
What made this a scary dual for the Hawkeyes was a, in my opinion, huge upset at 133 when Johnni DiJulius beat #4 Cory Clark. This combined with the next match, which to be expected, included a tech fall from Logan Stieber over Josh Dziewa. The DiJulius upset meant this could really be a 5-5 dual where the Hawkeyes would have to overcome the bonus points put up by Stieber.
At 149, things turned back in to Iowa's favor when a 3rd period comeback win for #10 Brandon Sorensen defeated banged up #5 Hunter Stieber 9-7. This match and the 197 bout of Nathan Burak pulling off the redshirt to defeat freshman phenom Kyle Snyder 2-1 allowed the Hawkeyes to win the dual without any bonus points.
Attendance in Columbus was 6,558 and a great atmosphere for the dual.
