Michigan Hammers Pitt
/#14 Michigan downed #18 Pittsburgh 28-9 on Friday night in a non-conference dual. Pitt was without #3 Max Thomusseit at 184, but they would have needed a lot more help than that. Michigan won 8 of the 10 matches to cruise to victory.
One of the Pitt victories came at 174 when #8 Tyler Wilps defeated Taylor Massa making his 174 debut 4-2. Michigan was upset over a couple fleeing the mat instances that weren't called and just the one stall call in the match with Massa clearly being the aggressor. Massa being the aggressor for seven minutes was clearly a good sign for Michigan as it appears he will be in this weight class for the rest of the season.
Rossi Bruno returned to the lineup at 133. He wrestled well, but did appear to be in some discomfort at the end of the match.
The only match featuring two ranked opponents facing off was at 197 when Max Huntley defeated Nick Bonaccorsi 5-1.
The win overall is a good sign for Michigan, a team that possibly is still underrated. They are now just 7-6 in duals, but all of those losses are to teams ranked ahead of them and five of them are to top ten teams. Michigan will wrestle Duke Saturday night and then have a couple weeks to train up for the Big Ten Championships in Columbus.
