Micic to Michigan!
/In a very surprising move Stevan Micic announced he was transferring from Northwestern just a couple weeks ago. This weekend it was announced Ann Arbor was where he was heading which was even more surprising (and of course I'm a little disappointed my resources didn't even give me a whisper of this possibility).
It's a somewhat shocking move for many reasons. Michigan has a surplus of lightweight talent, and Micic will likely (haven't heard officially) lose a year of eligibility with transfer rules inside the Big Ten being two main ones. Yet his decision seems to center around his freestyle future as he is on the Junior World Freestyle Team this summer. In Christian Pyles article with Flowrestling, Micic described his affinity for Sean Bormet and Andy Hrovat. The Cliff Keen Wrestling Club (CKWC) continues to build its roster as the Michigan Bahna Wrestling complex is really second to none. Micic is an exclamation point of the proof of the draw to CKWC that is already helping Michigan recruit for their college team.
Michigan was already putting together what looks like a top 5 lineup in 2016-17 as many (8 of their 10 NCAA qualifiers) of their 11th place lineup this season was underclassmen. Michigan has been in a down turn for half a dozen years as their last top ten NCAA finish was in 2008. However, a 2015-16 lineup with Huntley granted another year may change that and/or them loading up for a 2016-17 roster that includes Youtsey (Assad?), Micic, Hall, Pantaleo, Murphy, Logan Massa, Taylor Massa, Mahomes, Abounader and Coon will almost certainly end that drought with trophy potential.
