Total Madness to Begin Trials
/Two 2015 World Bronze medalists had lost their chance to be on the Olympic team, and it wasn't 10am Central time yet. Shortly there after, Brent Metcalf fell 3-3 to Frank Molinaro taking the wind out of the sails of the Iowa crowd before many of them had even found their seats. It was a wild way to start and the hits kept coming.
Molinaro wasn't done and added another criteria win to stun Logan Steiber. On the other end, Aaron Pico shocked Jordan Oliver in a wild 11-9 match. Pico would then beat a hobbled Reece Humphrey to make tonight's finals against Molinaro. Pico actually trailed 9-0 in his first match to Jayson Ness before rattling off 20 straight points to get the tech.
In Greco news, Spenser Mango had been on every World and Olympic team since 2008 but that run came to an end when Jesse Thielke beat him 8-0. An emotional Mango left his shoes on the mat to signal his retirement.
Another torn up bracket was Greco-Roman at 85 kg when everyone expected the rivalry of Jordan Holm and Jon Anderson to continue. Instead, it's the veterans Ben Provisor and Jacob Clark.
Bryce Saddoris and Ellis Coleman also failed to make the finals at Greco 66 kg meaning another bracket without the #1 or #2 seeds making the finals.
Finals start at 6pm Central tonight...it'll be great action and follow along @Bloodround
