USA Falls on Day 1

Jesse Thielke and Andy Bisek won their first matches to get in to the quarterfinals, but fell and were not pulled in to repechage.

Thielke made quick work in his first match with a tech victory coming after four straight guts to defeat Morroco. His tall task in the semis against Azerbaijan found him on the opposite end, unable to defend three guts after a passivity call. USA challenged the then 6-0 score, but then the replay went even further against the US with one of the 2-point turns becoming a 4 creating a tech.

Bisek ground out a 1-0 victory over Cuba controlling the pace the entire match with a passivity point being the difference. There were no takedowns in the quarterfinal with the Croatian, but Bisek gave up a gut as each guy got a par terre turn to lose 2-0.

Ben Provisor & Robby Smith will wrestle Monday looking to end USA's Olympic greco medal drought that goes back to Wheeler's bronze in 2008.
