Michigan Tops Sparty

Michigan traveled up 96 to East Lansing to perform their annual beating of the Spartans. However, in the post-Minkel era the little brothers are actually wrestling with some spirit. After the green & white got the benefit of a couple unorthodox matches at 125 & 149, the dual win for Michigan wasn't so certain. Javier Gasca also looked great in keeping Profaci at bay in his win at 141. 

Michigan got the wins in the next three heavily favored matches. Ernest Battaglia returned to the lineup and dominated his way to a 17-5 major. When Abounader redshirted, Michigan was left without a true 184, and Davonte Mahomes has yet to wrestle a match this season. It was great to see Battaglia come through for a big win for his team. 

Jackson Striggow put the dual away with his seventh win in his last eight matches. The redshirt freshman's confidence continues to grow as he is looking better and better in the toughest part of his schedule. 

Once again, and only for the second time this season, Michigan sent out Olapo at heavyweight. Cooper is on the smaller end of the class so I was really excited to see this matchup, but unfortunately early in the match Olapo appeared to tweak his knee defending a single leg. Olapo did get up, but with the dual out of reach caution ruled the day. 

Overall, it was a good dual for both teams. Sparty keeps showing fight in the new regime with Gasca getting a good win. Michigan gets a win to bounce back after the tough dual against Central Michigan, while their studs appear to keep making strides.
