Michigan Tops Iowa in Land of Gable

I'm not exactly sure what a "program win" or a "statement win" is, but Michigan winning the dual Saturday night in Carver-Hawkeye Arena felt like it deserved some sort of superlative. Tom Brands had not lost to Michigan as they had won nine straight dual meets against Joe McFarland and company. Getting a win against a highly ranked opponent and in that hostile environment had the Michigan bench glowing as they watched their guys take the last four matches to win the dual.

Last year Cash Wilcke failed to qualify for  the NCAA tournament as a redshirt freshman, but received an at-large bid when another competitor withdrew to injury. He won a pair of matches in the consolation bracket but eventually lost a close match to Kevin Beazley in the Bloodround. This year's results had many believing the much improved Wilcke would flip the result, but instead Beazley rallied after giving up the first takedown to take the 6-5 decision. This meant the dual came down to Coon just needing to win and that happened.

Alex Marinelli continued his impressive undefeated season with a 3-2 win over Logan Massa. The other highly anticipated match didn't happen as Kemerer was held out due to injury concerns at 157.

The only match not featuring a ranked wrestler stole the show. Vince Turk and Sal Profaci went back and forth to a thrilling 11-11 tie before Turk got the takedown early in sudden victory.

Michigan will host Nebraska on Friday while Iowa will stay home for Minnesota and Northwestern.
