Day 1 Madness

No one is safe in the big dance and Day 1 of the 2018 NCAA Wrestling Championships was no different. Two shocking defeats of #2 seeds highlighted the day as Missouri's Joey Lavallee and Iowa's Brandon Sorensen, two very consistent wrestlers, are no longer on the championship side of the brackets. 

Ohio State took a big leap forward in their pursuit of a National Championship in their home state. They went 19-1 on the first day and even picked up a surprising amount of bonus points. To also benefit, Penn State suffered a huge upset when 8-seed Nick Lee lost in his first match. There is plenty of tournament left, but the hill Penn State has to climb to catch the Buckeyes is steeper than thought before Thursday morning.
