Michigan Tops #2 Ohio State

Sean Bormet has yet to lose a collegiate dual since becoming head coach this season, and Friday night in Columbus didn’t seem like the time to start. The #5 Wolverines claimed six matches to topple #2 Ohio State 19-17. An intriguing dual from the start, the Buckeyes would likely win the bonus points battle so Bormet needed all six of those “likely” wins.

Drew Mattin returned to the lineup after last weekend off to deliver one of those key victories against a strong true freshman recently pulled from redshirt. Mattin was the only non-top ten victor of the evening.

There were two suprising lopsided results. Micic dominated Pletcher 14-1 to give him only his second loss of the year. Storr has only dropped two matches this season, both by razor sharp one-point decisions before Friday. However, McKenna scored early and often in route to a surprising technical fall.

Pantaleo was ranked behind his opponent for a tumultous start to his senior season and missed time. The two-time all-american winning was not a surprise, but a courageous performance in a tough situation against a very stingy highly ranked foe.

It all came down to the last match of the evening. At this point of the season, Mason Parris is ranked higher than Singletary, but the Buckeye got the win back in November. Parris avenged the loss 6-3 to claim the dual win over the defending Big Ten champions.

Michigan’s undefeated record will quickly be put to the ultimate test. They travel to State College on Friday to take on #1 Penn State, who has won 7 of the past 8 national championships.
